Our organisation

We’re the regulator for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and registered pharmacies in Great Britain.

Our main job is to protect the public and give them assurance they’ll receive safe and effective care when using pharmacy services.

Set up by the UK and Scottish parliaments, we’re a statutory organisation that is independent from government and those we regulate.

Our role

We set standards for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacies, and maintain a public register of those who meet our standards. Find out more about our role.

We’re funded by fees paid by pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacies that register with us.

Our role and purpose are set out in legislation called the Pharmacy Order 2010; this is the main piece of legislation from which our powers as an independent statutory regulator are derived. Learn about the Pharmacy Order 2010.
