The main powers and responsibilities of the General Pharmaceutical Council derive from the Pharmacy Order 2010 (Statutory Instrument 2010 No. 231) and the various sets of statutory rules made under the Order.
In addition, the council has powers and responsibilities for the registration of pharmacy premises and for enforcing certain provisions under the Medicines Act 1968 and the Poisons Act 1972.
