GPhC an effective regulator according to PSA

The GPhC today welcomed the Professional Standards Authority (PSA)’s overall performance assessment which states that the GPhC has maintained its performance as an effective regulator.

According to the PSA’s annual performance review report 2013/14 the GPhC has continued to meet all the Standards of Good Regulation for guidance and standards; education and training; and registration.

The PSA also stated that GPhC met all but one Standards of Good Regulation for fitness to practise. It also noted some of the improvement at particular stages in the time taken for cases to progress through the fitness to practise process, as well as the steps taken by the GPhC to reduce delays in our processes.

Commenting on the publication of the PSA performance review, Duncan Rudkin said:

“This year we have made significant progress in developing as an organisation, moving beyond our initial ‘set-up’ phase and setting out how we want to work as a regulator. We are delighted with the PSA’s recognition that the GPhC is an effective regulator and that we continue to make progress against its standards.

“We also recognise that much more work remains to be done. We will continue to evaluate our internal processes and infrastructure, and look for ways to improve and meet our aims more efficiently, particularly around our fitness to practice processes.”
