The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) is the regulator for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy premises in Great Britain.
The regulation of the healthcare professions is designed to protect the health, safety and well-being of people using their services.
Regulation should not create unnecessary burdens, but be proportionate to the risk it addresses and the benefit it brings. It should support and enable the working lives of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, and open up pathways to a satisfying career, rather than being seen purely as a means of discipline.
We regulate pharmacy technicians by:
- approving qualifications for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians
- accrediting education and training providers
- maintaining a register of properly qualified pharmacists and pharmacy technicians and pharmacy premises
- setting standards for professional, fitness to practise, and ethical standards
- setting and promoting standards for the safe and effective practice of pharmacy at registered
- pharmacies, ensuring all registrants maintain their knowledge by completing continuing professional development (CPD)
- monitoring pharmacy professionals' fitness to practise
- dealing fairly and proportionately with complaints and concerns.
