GPhC welcomes statement on EU medicines logo

Commenting on the launch of the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency’s (MHRA) new mandatory logo for selling medicines online, Duncan Rudkin, Chief Executive of the GPhC, said:

“We welcome progress the MHRA has made in implementation of the new mandatory EU logo for selling medicines online. We have been working closely with the MHRA ahead of the roll-out of the logo and will continue to do so during its implementation phase.

“We are now in a position to begin a review of the GPhC’s voluntary logo scheme for registered pharmacies supplying medicines online. This review will consider any changes to our own logo which would support patients and consumers to keep themselves safe when they are obtaining medicines over the internet from a registered pharmacy.

“All pharmacies in Great Britain, including online pharmacies, must meet our standards for registered pharmacies. This is not the case with other online medicines retailers, wherever they are based. Any patient or member of the public unsure whether a pharmacy is registered should check our online register.”
