The way forward for pharmacy: toolkit for workshops

The 2013 Which? investigation into advice from pharmacies and other research highlights the variability in medicines advice provided by community pharmacies across the UK.

The pharmacy regulator for Great Britain, the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), and pharmacy’s professional body, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS), held a joint event on 8 July 2013 for pharmacy organisations, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and other pharmacy staff, training providers, medicine manufacturers, trade bodies and patient representatives to come together to look at current practice in medicines advice and how it can be improved.

It has been recognised that there is not one solution to these issues. Each organisation has a particular role to play.

So we are asking organisations across pharmacy to hold their own workshops to consider how their organisation can help to improve the advice that patients receive about medicines.

We would like to encourage you to take part in this work by holding a workshop before the end of 2013 and then focusing on actions that could be taken forward. There will be a series of opportunities to report on your progress in 2014.

Please contact communications@pharmacyregulation.org for a copy of the Which? report or to share the outcomes of your workshop.
