Revalidation – find out more about the proposals

22 June 2017

Do you have questions about how revalidation will work in practice?

Please watch our video, where we outline our proposals and hear from two volunteers who took part in the CPD pilot in 2016.

You can also join our webinar on Tuesday 27 June at 19.00 if you haven’t yet had the chance to find out more and respond to the consultation, or if you have any questions about the proposals and how they could work in practice.

And you can also read our FAQs page to find out the answers to some of the frequently asked questions we’ve been asked so far.

We’ve had over 800 responses so far to our consultation which sets out how we will work with pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to show that the trust in pharmacy professionals is well placed. We want to make sure that those affected have the opportunity to respond to the proposals.

Under the proposals, all pharmacy professionals would be required each year to:

  • make four records for CPD, rather than the current nine
  • record a peer discussion with someone who understands their work
  • write a reflective account detailing how they meet one or more of the standards for pharmacy professionals using examples from their practice
  • submit their records to us.

We would then review a random sample and a targeted sample using revised criteria and an improved review process.

The consultation on the proposals is open until 17 July 2017. Our governing council will then consider the feedback received and decide on the final approach. We then plan to introduce revalidation for pharmacy professionals in stages, beginning from 2018, with it coming fully into effect in early 2020.
