Changes proposed to the education and training of pharmacy technicians and pharmacist independent prescribers

We are proposing to make changes to two areas of pharmacy education and training - the initial standards of education and training for pharmacy technicians, and the supervision of pharmacist independent prescribers in training.

Consultation on initial education and training standards of pharmacy technicians

Share your views on religion, personal values and beliefs in pharmacy

We have launched a consultation on religion, personal values and beliefs in the context of delivering person-centred care.

The consultation is open until 7 March 2017.

The consultation asks about the wording of the examples on personal values and beliefs in the new standards for pharmacy professionals—which will come into force in May 2017—and about the guidance on the behaviours expected of pharmacy professionals in applying the standards.

Get your flu jab – protect yourself, your patients and your family

Anyone can be susceptible to influenza infection, even if they are in good health, and this is why we are supporting the Department of Health (DH) campaign to encourage healthcare professionals to get vaccinated against seasonal influenza.

As a pharmacy professional providing key healthcare services, and often dealing with patients directly, we ask you to consider getting yourself vaccinated and to encourage your staff to get vaccinated as well.

Thank you for your feedback on proposed changes to calling CPD records

Our consultation on the proposed new framework and approach for CPD sampling closed today.

We want to thank all those who took the time to respond and give us their views.  We were very encouraged by the interest shown in the consultation — more than 2,000 registrants responded to our online survey.

We will now work to analyse the responses and issue a report in early 2017.

Disclosure UK brings transparency to health professionals’ relationships with the pharmaceutical industry

Healthcare professionals and the pharmaceutical industry regularly collaborate and share knowledge to develop medicines. On 30 June 2016, the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) launched Disclosure UK - a central database that discloses details of these interactions.

Focus on risk management in pharmacy

This is the second in a series of articles focusing on key topics to help prompt discussion and share examples of what we are seeing through our inspections of registered pharmacies.

This month we are focusing on risk management, which is a crucial part of effective governance. It underpins the pharmacy’s day to day practice and ensures that the health, safety and wellbeing of patients are safeguarded and risks are minimised.

Handling personal data: could you spare 15 minutes to help the ICO and pharmacies across the UK?

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) is carrying out research in the community pharmacy sector to better understand how pharmacies in the UK handle the personal data that they come across on a day-to-day basis. Could you help them by completing their anonymous online survey on behalf of your pharmacy?
