Registration renewal fees to remain at current levels

Our governing council has decided that registration renewal fees for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy premises will remain at current levels for the financial year 2017/18.

Registration renewal fees will continue to be £250 for pharmacists, £118 for pharmacy technicians and £241 for registered pharmacies.

The council approved the organisation’s budget for 2017/18 at its meeting in February and agreed as part of the budget that fee levels should remain unchanged.

Help the MHRA educate patients about buying medicines safely online

More than half the medical products bought online are fake or unlicensed and in 2015, £15.8 million worth of fake medication seized over one month alone in Operation Pangea.

The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) launched the #FakeMeds campaign in August 2016 to tackle the growing issue of falsified, unlicensed and counterfeit medicines and medical devices bought online.

New requirements for pharmacy professionals on English language skills and indemnity arrangements

A new law has come into force which introduces a requirement for all pharmacy professionals to provide evidence that they have the necessary skills in English language to practise safely and effectively.

As a part of these changes, we will now be able to check that pharmacy professionals who qualified in the European Economic Area have the necessary knowledge of English.  Previously, if a pharmacy professional was a national of the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland, we could not check their English language skills before they joined the register.

Changes proposed to the education and training of pharmacy technicians and pharmacist independent prescribers

We are proposing to make changes to two areas of pharmacy education and training - the initial standards of education and training for pharmacy technicians, and the supervision of pharmacist independent prescribers in training.

Share your views on religion, personal values and beliefs in pharmacy

We have launched a consultation on religion, personal values and beliefs in the context of delivering person-centred care.

The consultation is open until 7 March 2017.

The consultation asks about the wording of the examples on personal values and beliefs in the new standards for pharmacy professionals—which will come into force in May 2017—and about the guidance on the behaviours expected of pharmacy professionals in applying the standards.
