Engaging with patients and the public, professionals, and stakeholders on inspection

Over the past month, we have been talking to pharmacy professionals and patients and members of the public about the development of a new approach to inspecting pharmacies.

Pharmacy professionals have been working with us on developing an inspection decisions framework, and patients and the public on developing public reporting against our new standards for registered pharmacies.

Once the new inspection model is in place, for the first time we will be publishing the reports our inspectors make after they inspect registered pharmacies. Those reports will be available to the public as well as pharmacy owners and practitioners. We have held focus groups of patients and the public, and of pharmacy professionals, in England, Scotland and Wales to discuss public reporting of inspections and other key issues.

These and other stakeholder engagement activities are helping to shape our work as we develop our new model for inspection of registered pharmacies, during the transition period until our new standards for registered pharmacies become enforceable. We are committed to building on the extensive engagement activities we have already carried out with stakeholder groups, including patients and the public, and their representatives.
