Last day to renew registration

Today (31 October) is the deadline for registration renewals for three quarters of the pharmacists and pharmacy technicians on the register in Great Britain.

All pharmacists and pharmacy technicians whose registration expires at the end of the calendar year (75% of the register) have to renew their registration by today (31 October) in order to be able to continue to practise in Great Britain(1).

The owners of more than 13,000 pharmacies are also being asked to renew the registrations of their pharmacies by today (31 October) so they can continue to operate.

The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) has contacted those who have not yet renewed their registration to remind them of the deadline.

Anyone who fails to renew by the end of October deadline can seek to be restored to the register, but will have to pay more than double the standard fee for renewing their registration. Pharmacies that miss the renewal deadline will have to pay more than triple the standard fee.

Pharmacy professionals who do not renew their registration will be removed from the register the day after the expiry date of their registration and will not be able to practise. Registered pharmacy entries will also be removed from the register the day after expiry of their registration and will not be able to open to trade as a retail pharmacy business.

The annual renewal fees are now £240 for pharmacists and £108 for pharmacy technicians, after Council agreed to make a 10% reduction to the fees.

The annual renewal fee for registered pharmacies remains £221.
