High Court judgment confirms standards for pharmacy professionals are lawful

The High Court has today handed down its judgment in relation to the PDA’s application for judicial review of the new standards for pharmacy professionals. The PDA’s application for permission to seek a judicial review in relation to the standards was refused.

In today’s judgment, the Honourable Mr Justice Singh affirms a number of important principles, including that pharmacy professionals should be expected to meet the standards at all times.

The standards will play an important role in supporting the delivery of safe and effective care, and in upholding public confidence in pharmacy.

The GPhC will now move forward with the implementation of the standards for pharmacy professionals, due to come into effect in May, and will shortly begin a programme of communications and engagement with pharmacy professionals about the new standards.
