Lynsey Cleland - GPhC Director for Scotland:
"It was a pleasure to join the Chair and Chief Executive of the GPhC at the 4th Annual Regulation Conference at Murrayfield Stadium. This annual event is hosted by the Scottish Government Health Directorates, in partnership with the UK health professions regulators.
The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) is pleased to announce the names of the 500 pre-registration trainee pharmacists who passed their registration assessment (the ‘registration exam’) in September – an 87.9 per cent pass rate.
GPhC has again demonstrated its risk-based and proportionate approach to regulation, by amending the list of pharmacy assistant qualifications to accommodate those previously working as pharmacy technicians with older qualifications.
The GPhC and BPSA met earlier this week in what was described as a “helpful and constructive” meeting. A range of topics were covered including the issues surrounding the June registration examinations and changes that will be made going foward.
Responding to the announcement today from the Department of Health on enhanced arrangements for language testing for doctors, the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) reiterated its view that all healthcare regulators should be given the right to test language competence at the point of registration.
