Planning for further changes to CPD requirements

23 February 2017

Our first call using a sampling method to select CPD records for review started this month – and we have also been piloting a new approach to CPD recording that will help provide further assurance to the public that the standards for pharmacy professionals continue to be met.

The pilot project involved more than 1300 (around 1 in 55) pharmacy professionals, from different sectors of practice, testing and providing feedback on new arrangements for recording CPD. The new arrangements reduce and simplify the requirements, while adding in new elements including peer discussion and a reflective account on the standards for pharmacy professionals.

The pilot finished in December 2016 and we are reviewing the evidence gathered from an independent evaluation. We will be publishing a report of the evaluation in the next few months, and using the evidence and conclusions to help prepare the proposals for a new system which we will consult on in Spring / Summer 2017. The consultation will give you the opportunity to let us know your views before we make any changes to our requirements in 2018.
