GPhC and NHS England appoint first joint national pharmacy technician fellow for England

The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and NHS England (NHSE) have appointed Olivia Musson as their new national pharmacy technician fellow. This will be the second national pharmacy technician fellowship provided, but the first that is jointly co-hosted by the GPhC and NHSE.

This new fellowship post, co-hosted by the GPhC and NHS England, offers a one-year fixed term opportunity to work across the Office of the Chief Pharmaceutical Officer (NHS England) and the GPhC. 

Chief Pharmacy Officer at the GPhC, Roz Gittins, said:

“We were very impressed with the high calibre of the candidates for this fellowship, but Olivia really stood out in terms of her knowledge, experience, skills and attitude. 

“We look forward to working closely with Olivia at the GPhC, and we are confident she will make a real contribution to our work to support and empower the pharmacy technician profession, including in the ongoing work to develop new standards for the initial education and training of pharmacy technicians.”

Liz Fidler, Senior Professional Advisor Pharmacy Technician Practice at the Office of the Chief Pharmaceutical Officer at NHS England, said:

"As the second national pharmacy technician fellow, Olivia will play a crucial role in enabling pharmacy technician professional practice to develop further to boost patients’ access to clinical services. Olivia currently works as the Service Improvement Manager within the Pharmacy department at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust.

Olivia Musson: biography

Olivia currently works as the Service Improvement Manager within the Pharmacy department at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust. Her role includes embedding Quality Improvement principles into service development and supporting project implementation across the pharmacy department. Olivia also sits on the pharmacy leadership team where she is responsible for leading the dispensary and Medicine Management Technicians (MMT) services across both hospital sites.

Since qualifying and registering back in 2014, Olivia has worked in various secondary care roles including NHS, private and commissioning with a focus on operational management, homecare, procurement and service improvement. Olivia trained in London after graduating from Durham University and then returned home to the East Midlands and now works in the East of England region. Olivia is passionate about staff wellbeing and mental health awareness and is a strong believer in compassionate leadership.
