Brexit: key information for pharmacy professionals and pharmacy owners

The transition process began on the 31 January 2020 when the United Kingdom left the European Union. During this time, the United Kingdom has continued to be subject to EU rules and remained a member of the single market and customs union. However, on 31 December 2020, the Brexit transition period will come to an end. As a result, the registration process for some pharmacists and pharmacy technicians with non-UK qualifications will change.

There will also be some changes that affect pharmacies and pharmacy owners.  We have developed a Q&A for pharmacy professionals and pharmacy owners to help explain key changes and will continue to update this Q&A as the situation develops.

This Q&A is informed by Guidance for EEA-qualified and Swiss healthcare professionals practising in the UK from 1 January 2021 published by the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC).

Alongside this Q&A and the DHSC guidance, we would also recommend referring to guidance from other organisations such as the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.
