GPhC response to the Government's statement on the Gosport Independent Panel inquiry

In response to the Government's statement on the report of the Gosport Independent Panel inquiry, Duncan Rudkin, Chief Executive of the General Pharmaceutical Council said:

"The conclusions of the Gosport Independent Panel’s report are truly shocking, and we all need to make sure we learn from the devastating accounts of the families of patients who were failed by their health and care professionals and the wider system.

"We welcome the government’s response and their recommendations for the sector. As an organisation we will now be carefully considering what this means for pharmacy regulation and our next steps. As the government response outlines, we are committed to working with the pharmacy representative bodies to develop a framework for pharmacy to assess what changes have already been made to help prevent a similar situation to that described in the Panel report happening again and encourage discussion across pharmacy on any further actions that could be taken."
