Providing safe and effective treatment: Selecting the appropriate mode of consultation when assessing a person’s needs

Asking for your comments

As part of our work to make sure people receive safe and effective care, we have produced a short guidance note for pharmacy professionals, including pharmacist prescribers, on selecting the appropriate mode of consultation when assessing a person’s needs

The principles outlined in the guidance note apply to consultations undertaken in all pharmacy settings, including those undertaken by online pharmacy services providers.

Our plan is to include the contents of this guidance note in the document: ‘In practice: Guidance for pharmacist prescribers’ when we undertake our next review.

However, in the meantime we will be sharing this guidance note with all registrants once it has been finalised and will expect them to follow it when undertaking a consultation. We will be working to this guidance in our operational work, which includes inspections and fitness to practice (FtP). Before we do this, we would like to hear any comments or questions you may have about the draft guidance set out below.

If you have any comments or questions about the guidance note, please send them to us at: standards@pharmacyregulation.org by 30 June 2022.

We will take into consideration any points raised and will keep you informed of future developments, including when we plan to implement the guidance note.
